Classes for Beginners

If you are new to painting, or any other form of art, or returning, rusty or not confident, these classes would be a very good place to start.

We provide most of the materials for beginners classes – we let you bring your own aprons and jam jars…we don’t seem to be able to keep up with the jam jars. Exploring Drawing Workshop

Drawing is at the heart of our courses at Hampshire Art studio. We FIRMLY believe everyone can draw. It is our job to help you find the confidence and the skills to draw as you want to draw.

There are numerous definitions of drawing, some more helpful than others. Drawing offers a space to think and explore ideas. It can be 2D or 3D. It can be the creation of an individual, or a collaboration. It can be in colour. It can be a line, a word, a smudge. It can be technical and expressive. It can be ‘how to…’ or ‘why’, just for the hell of it, or as an end in itself.

Introduction to Watercolour Painting

This is a beginners course introducing you to painting with this light filled medium. On this 4 day course of water colour painting, you will explore translucence and transparency. You will be playing with colour to create form, rhythm, the value of tone, harmony and discord, and…surprise.

Sarah will show you many techniques; like tools in a box you will discover ways to create light and atmosphere.

The Autumn term is a wonderful time to learn about watercolours; the warm colours of autumn leaves and the rich variety of harvested fruits make interesting subjects.

Introduction to Mixed Media

If you are the person who says, ‘I can’t…’, but wants to have a go at something…this is the class for you…

There are so many words thrown around about art techniques – most of them sound alarming. Monoprinting and mixed media are great fun to learn – you don’t need to be an expert to have a go.

Introduction to Life/Lines (Drawing)

This is an introduction to an expressive approach to life drawing

The approach to drawing and the artistic creativity of this course is centred in finding, experimenting, and discovering a richer vocabulary of marks and gestures. You will be encouraged to become more sensitive, responsive and expressive with a variety of materials.

Introduction to Acrylics

In many ways using acrylic paints is intuitive. Acrylic paints come in a variety of different forms with different methods of application, whether used simply with water, or with added mediums.

A knowledgeable tutor, pointing you in the right direction will make all the difference. The variety of uses is as extensive as you make it. If you haven’t tried them before let Eve guide you through some of the options and excite you with the prospect of yet more ways to use acrylic paints.
