Summer Rain

I can hear my garden heave a sigh of relief…grey, grey skies and rain at last. My husband seems to be fishing, or possibly hiding in a hut, watching the water levels rise.

If you are reluctant to get an umbrella to get outside come and join a few summer art classes, inside if it is raining, outside if its warm, dry and appropriate.

Some classes start this week. Pick and choose whatever suits the dates you are free.

Drawing and Painting starts again on Thursday 6th June (click for more info)

Music and Movement, Life Drawing with a twist, 4th July (click for more info)

Beginners Oil Painting

  • 11th and 18th June, 2019, 10.00 – 4.00
  • £190/person to include all materials

There is a mystique about painting with oils. Don’t let this put you off. Oil paints are fun, vibrant and very forgiving – have a play with them.

On this course I will provide the materials; you can start to accumulate your own once you know what you like to use. I will help you to find the materials to suit your needs.

Pictured below is sweet shop made real…you will need considerably less to get started. To start with this set would be like learning to drive in an Aston Martin.

Old holland

You will start by looking at tone, at first using charcoal then rapidly progressing to Oils. It will be in a fun and supportive atmosphere, though possibly a bit messy.

Bring an apron, rags and a jam jar, and a willingness to have a go.

Oil Painting for Beginners II (Colour)

Three Classes, Three Different Approaches to Colour

Feb 16th, 23rd and March 2nd.

10.00am – 1.00pm

£165/3, or £65/session

At Ramshill, Easton Common Hill, East Winterslow, SP5 1QF

If you have done the Beginners Oil Painting class the question is what to do next. On this course you will start to look at colour.

Colour is a huge topic. You will start by looking at three different approaches: at painting with a limited palette, alla prima and a variation of ‘on the shoulders of giants’.

Sometimes limitations are liberating, sometimes total freedom is exciting, and sometimes exploring the work of other artists shows you a new path. You will see that you are the master of your painting and you can paint any way you want…with a bit of practise.

I will suggest a list of equipment. There will be essentials, and others, less essential you might feel inclined to add to you supplies.

Art Courses for 2019

Christmas is over. It is  time for new year’s resolutions…so what are you going to choose?  Are you a ‘giver-upper’? Will it be… no more chocolate – ever? Or do you try something new…a ‘taker-upper’?

Surprisingly,  the beach photo from Norfolk was taken in January 2018. How about some blue sky thinking for 2019? (try not to focus on the clouds…just enjoy the possibilities)

Oil Painting for Beginners, January 2019

You will start at the very beginning, learning about the equipment, how to mix paints and what to do next. You will be looking at tone and become used to working with oils. After these three days you will be launched into the world of oil painting.

It will be in a fun and supportive atmosphere, though possibly a bit messy. Everyone is welcome.

Christmas Presents?

I’m not sure how ready I am for Christmas. Lights, baubles, trees are done but I’ve only just started on the cards…this lone reindeer is the image for 2018.

Looking into the Future…

There are some classes set in concrete for 2018 and others are bubbling away trying to find a slot. There will be regular classes at Ramshill, my studio in East Winterslow, classes at Rum’s Eg in Romsey, at Riverside Cottage, Bransbury and other venues. Keep a look out for regular updates on new classes.

Every Thursday there will be either drawing or painting classes and more beginners oil painting classes at Ramshill.

Keep a look out for ‘Larger than Life, Life Drawing’, ‘Thinking Aloud’ a course to encourage you to take risks, be creative and get more from your work. Also ‘Big Drawings in Challenging Places’, ‘Dynamic Landscapes, Mixed Media, Drawing, Print and Paint’, ‘Music and Movement’, and ‘Experimental Drawing’. There will be restorative retreats at Riverside Cottage and excursions to galleries and other places of interest.

AND a very exciting trip to Andalucia in October.
