Autumn Painting Workshops

September, October and November feel far away but they will creep up on you. Use these autumn workshops as a time to start something new such as oil painting. You can develop your painting skills in a new direction. You can learn how Poussin worked, influenced others…and how his work can influence you.

Below are outlines of the various courses. Click on the titles to take you to pages with more information.

On the Shoulders of Giants – Poussin

Over four classes we are going to look at Poussin’s use of colour, composition, and how other artists have been influenced. This can include an abstract approach such as Twombly’s, or a direct reference from a part of a painting, such as Bacon’s use of a mother fleeing the scene in The Massacre of the Innocents. Also Kossoff’s dynamic charcoal drawings.

We will look at Poussin’s paintings and ink studies and find ways to incorporate his ideas into our own work.
