Discover Monoprinting and Mixed Media

With Sarah Capes

There are so many words thrown around about art techniques – most of them sound alarming. Monoprinting and mixed media are great fun to learn – you don’t need to be an expert to have a go. If you are the person who says, ‘I can’t draw’, but wants to have a go at something…this is the class for you.

Sarah Capes is extremely knowledgable and has discovered all sorts of ways to create interesting and exciting pieces. Use this two day workshop to discover her different ways to approach mono printing, and use your print work in a mixed media piece. Over two days of the course you will taking inspiration from the beautiful surroundings of the studio.

Day 1: This will be spent making monoprints using a Gelli Plate. You will print using leaves and materials gathered from the area around the studio, as well as experimenting with textures and marks.

This is a very exciting and surprising way to create images – it can become addictive as you want to try yet another one…just to see what happens…

Day 2: You will be working from the lovely stack of paper images created on day one. Your final piece will be a record of the two days by the beautiful River Dever.

About Sarah Capes

Sarah Capes creates magical mixed media paintings that are multi layered with acrylic paint, collage, and stencils.

In the process the layers get covered up, scraped and sanded back leaving behind traces of what has gone before. Sarah makes prints using stencils and leaves with a Gelli pad which she incorporates into her work.

Always having quite a few sketchbooks on the go, taking them travelling with her across the world, Sarah has a fresh and wide ranging approach to her work. Her sketchbooks have visual notes from the farmland of west Hampshire to the souks of Morocco, and sing with colour, design ideas and experimentation.
