In January 2024, two new courses are on offer focusing on various aspects of painting and drawing. Sam Clayden will hold an online workshop about painting clouds and skies, targeting techniques like color mixing and aerial perspective. Meanwhile, Eleanor Measham will guide a two-day studio class about perspective drawing and architectural sketching, helping participants boost their alfresco sketching skills and develop perspective sketches.
Sam Clayden is doing an online class for us; in the footsteps of Constable and Turner he will be looking at clouds and skies. His enthusiasm for skies is a natural continuation from his delightful landscape paintings. Eleanor Measham (my daughter) is an architect who helped teach architecture student how to draw whilst she was doing her masters. She has won prizes for her drawings and delights in encouraging others to enjoy the process.

Clouds and Skies, Oil Painting Workshop with Sam Clayden (ONLINE)

The British are renowned for talking about the weather; an island nation who follow the poetry of the shipping forecast, and whose small talk is dominated by how unusual the weather is for the time of year.
In this three-day online workshop you will explore ways of expressing the endlessly changing clouds and skies. Through online demonstrations, historical examples, critiques of students’ work, Sam Clayden will cover everything from mixing colour harmonies and mark-making, to aerial perspective, light and form, recession and texture.

Perspective Drawing, An Introduction with Eleanor Measham (STUDIO)
This two-day class in perspective drawing and architectural sketching is for beginners and those who wish to improve their confidence in al fresco sketching. You will build up a set of skills, understanding of perspective and learn to use a sketchbook for recording ideas and vignettes.


Initially you will focus on core skills and the history of perspective drawing, looking at different techniques and styles for drawing buildings and other things. Next, to build on these skills and, depending on weather, you will produce perspective sketches either inside with its nooks and crannies, or outside the Victorian School house studio, (or both).
