Next term we have two outstanding portrait artists. Alan Clarke is an award winning sculptor and illustrator from Ireland. James Bland is an award winning painter from the United Kingdom. They are both experts in their field, practising artists and experienced, knowledgeable tutors.

Alan Clarke is an award winning sculptor and illustrator from Ireland.


Alan Clarke’s work is rooted in traditional skills and is informed by the guiding principles of Art. In the last few years his sculptures have been recognised with awards from The Society of Portrait Sculptors, The Art Renewal Centre, Artrepeneur, Beautriful Bizarre magazine, and Sculpture in Context. He is former chairman of the Illustrators Guild of Ireland and is the only ever Irish member of the Society of Portrait Sculptors. He is a drawing tutor at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin.

Portrait Painting with James Bland, 2024
James Bland is a very experienced tutor and highly regarded amongst his peers. We feel fortunate to have him with us. In the last few years he has been recognised with membership of prestigious societies such as CBPP and NEAC, articles in magazines, and with a number of prizes and awards.
To paint a portrait is to consider the human condition and to reflect upon our own existence, it is deeply personal and as varied and exciting as the people we paint and the painters that paint them
