Playful Intent; Abstract Painting

with Barbara J. Graham

If you are new to abstract painting you might wonder how to get started. Using the River Dever and studio environment as inspiration Barbara Graham will encourage students to become immersed in a process of play and exploration, using materials, marks, colour and composition to discover their unique visual language.

Barbara encourages student to work within a limited palette. Each student is invited to choose 3 colours they would like to work with. They can bring these to the class, or select from the range available in the studio.

In a positive and engaging environment, students will feel confident to create several finished works while learning a creative process they can continue at home, or add to their existing painting practice.

About Barbara J. Graham

Barbara J Graham has a BFA (Hons) from Wimbledon College of Art (2013) and a BA SocSci (Hons) from Manchester University (1994)

Barbara refers to her recent work as Gestural Abstraction, approaching each work as an expression of deeply intuitive emotions. Each stroke or mark is a recording of a moment in time and the emotion during the process. The overall result is a record of all the feelings recorded together in one aesthetic, a collection of moments separated in time, but now preserved together in one place.
