Join Rosie MacCurrach for an exciting weekend exploring the space around the Studio at Bransbury. No previous experience is necessary, and all materials will be provided.
We will explore a pattern-based interpretation of the landscape around the river Dever through drawing from observation. We will look at how patterns, rhythms and textures can represent a sense of place, an atmosphere, movement and light. Referencing artists such as Samuel Palmer, Van Gogh, David Hockney, Eric Ravilious, Matisse, Vuillard, 17th C Indian paintings and others, you will be encouraged to experiment in finding your own visual language and way of making marks.
Each session will have a group introduction followed by individual support. There will be a strong focus on learning to look…. for patterns, textures and rhythms; identifying shapes, space and compostions. Drawing with pencils, charcoal and ink, you will explore different ways of interpreting your surroundings through experimental mark making. You will also look at how you choose what to draw, pulling out of the scene the patterns and shapes that pull you in. You will explore composition as the counterweight to pattern. Day 1 will focus on pattern and day 2 on combining pattern and composition.
A subject (rather than technique) focussed course, suitable for all levels of experience. A structured start is followed by guided independent practice.

About Rosie MacCurrach
Rosie MacCurrach is an Artist and Textile designer, living in Hampshire and is currently Head of Studio at Fermoie.
Rosie grew up in Devon, graduated from Chelsea College of Art in 2003 with a BA 1st in Textile Design, specialising in print. Rosie has since worked as a print designer and artist in Fashion, Film, Picture book illustration and Theatre.
A postgraduate year spent at the Royal Drawing School followed by time as the Artist in Residence at Great Dixter House and Garden were a springboard for a new direction in Rosie’s life. She has taught at the Royal School of Drawing, Great Dixter and currently teaches at West Dean.
