Exploring Trees

with Fiona McIntyre

Texture, Colour and Context

The trees and wild flowers on the banks of the River Dever in front of the Hampshire Art studio building will come into their own over the days of this course. Fiona McIntyre has a passion for trees, for artists who have painted trees, and for the positive effect trees have on people and the environment.

Fiona will encourage students to develop good observational skills: measuring, composition, colour shape, hard edges and soft edges, difference between organic and man-made forms, and perspective. There will be constant reference to landscape artists of the past and present, Such as David Hockney, Victor Pasmore, and Constable.

Students will be encouraged to observe, to be intuitive and expansive. Using mostly water based materials, including black walnut ink, students will mix charcoal, acrylics, gouache, pencil and collaged elements. This will be a dynamic, mixed media, site-specific and exciting few days.
