Thursday Workshops

We are offering various workshops on Thursdays. There will be a series of ‘On the Shoulders of Giants’ , on zoom, looking at pictures from collections around the world. In early February Georgina Potter will be back with her popular Sky Workshop.

On the Shoulders of Giants

  • With Kate Measham
  • 21st, 28th January and 11th February, 10.00-12.00am
  • £45 for three classes, fromVarious Art Gallery Collections
  • This class will be via Zoom. You will be sent information about Zoom when you book your place for the lesson, and a link on the morning of the class.
  • A video will be available after the class. If you are unable to be with us on on the day you may purchase access to the video for £15.

Although museums and galleries are closed to the public at the moment their catalogue of treasures are available at the click of a button. This is a wonderful opportunity to travel around time and space to look at some of the wonderful art of the world. You will build your work on the shoulders of giants.

You will be working towards a final piece, looking at colour, line, composition, narrative, perspective, and anything else that arises.

Don’t let yourself feel you know the direction you wish to take before you start the process.

Be prepared to explore, investigate and let the picture lead you in a new direction.

My principle inspiration comes from changing light patterns and the way they, in turn, affect the landscape. I paint instinctively, working directly from life on smaller boards plein air and then often translating the smaller paintings into larger works in the studio. I make fast and decisive marks on the canvas, keeping mark making as lively and energetic as the weather itself. Working primarily in oils, the weather, and its effects on the landscape, are my primary concern, and most of my work reflects the changing light patterns accordingly.

Georgina Potter

Georgina has exhibited all over the country and, deservedly,. . won prizes. This is your chance to learn how she approaches skies, the more dramatic the better. These tend to be quick pieces following our ever changing weather.

Hopefully you will be working outside however the studio is ready to accommodate everyone if the weather turns. Georgina has run many workshops and is experienced at encouraging the less experienced.
