Oil Painting for rusty beginners

Monday, 28th October, 2019

10.00-4.00, at the Studio, Bransbury,

£80/day, tea, coffee and biscuits provided. Please bring your own materials.

If you have been to an Oil Painting Beginners course, and it was fine on the day, but you feel rusty, have slightly lost confidence and can’t quite remember what to do…this is the course for you. A one day gallop through the basics to set you off on the oil painting path.

Painting with oils is great fun once you get going, so come along to remind yourself that you CAN do it.

Courses are now booked via https://hampshireart.studio/shop/.

For this class please bring a mix of paints, rags, brushes, solvents, your palette, palette knife and a few things to paint on (paper, boards or canvas – not too small). Whilst you are on the Hampshire Art studio site have a look at the oil painting basket of materials from CASS ART. They can supply anything you are missing with a 10% discount if you go from our site.

Autumn painting at HAMPSHIRE ART studio starts on Thursday 19th September. The term is divided into different building blocks for painting. This week the focus is tone, tempera, light and depth.

Learn how the use of tempera (NOT egg tempera) can transform a picture. You will be working from a still life and copying an old master. A busy day.

Chris Davis, an artist from Abbotts Ann, will work alongside Kate Measham demonstrating these techniques.

New Classes start in September

It is a glorious sunny day; a Sunday to laze about with a book, or a sketchbook, or a Sunday to get jobs done. Don’t waste it…pick fruit, get outside. This evening plan which autumn classes will make the darker days more interesting and fulfilling.

Autumn isn’t here yet but there is change in the air. At this time of year I promise myself I’m going to take up something new, French, Tai Chi, marathon running, etching. Some are more successful than others.

September is a time for new beginnings

New Classes with HAMPSHIRE ART studio

This week is the start of the Autumn Term for artdrawpaint with HAMPSHIRE ART studio. I have classes for those of you who want to learn about painting with oils, drawing classes, regular life drawing classes, and painting classes (jointly with Chris Davies). There are five drawing classes, five life drawing classes and five painting classes. They are linked and progressive, but can very easily be taken individually.

If you need help deciding what is right for you contact me and we can work through it together.

If you want to extend the summer join me in Andalucia in 4 weeks time for a week of painting at the very lovely Casa Rosa.

There are other classes with new tutors, and new venues are going to be part of the HAMPSHIRE ART studio remit. I am very excited about it.

This term is the start of our Master Classes with Nick Bashall and Sarah Spackman sharing their expertise. Their classes are both fully booked however we are taking a few people onto waiting lists. There will be more masterclasses in the new year so keep an eye on what is happening.

Visit HAMPSHIRE ART studio for more information and to book.

Autumn Art Classes – enjoying the process

All the best ideas come through practise, hard work and enjoying the process.

A regular visual workout improves your dexterity, your understanding and your thought processes. Sometimes it is hard. You have to take risks, and it might not always be a masterpiece, but to get better you have to take a step into the unknown. Then, next time it won’t be so unnerving.

Come to regular classes, work through different ideas in a supportive atmosphere and start enjoying the process.

This autumn join a regular Thursday art course with a mix of drawing, painting and life drawing. There is a price incentive to sign up for batched days at a time. Equally you may want to only do Life drawing, or painting, or drawing. Maybe this sounds complicated – hopefully you can understand the variations.

If you want to sign up or discuss options contact me Kate Measham
