Studio Courses


Friends of Hampshire Art Studio

This is not supervised by a tutor.

2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, and 30th March

9.30am – 4.30pm

We have days set aside for those of you who wish to escape to a quiet, creative bolthole; use the studio and it facilities for your own work.

FHAS will work on a first come first serve basis. If you sign up to be a part of this group your name will be added to a WhatsApp group. It is up to members of the group to tell others when they intend to be in the studio.

You may use the easels, boards, tables, chairs and kitchen. There is an honesty box for paper.

£75/ remaining half of term, to be paid in advance.


Painting with Fibres, Textile Art

March 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th, and 31st

10.00am – 4.00pm

Suitable for all abilities

Sarah will be teaching you how to use different fibres, prefelts and fabrics (nuno) within feltmaking.

You will focus on design and colour mixing of the fibres, cutting and layering techniques to produce samples and a finished collage.

£400/5 day studio course, materials included


We are running a series of two day workshops that can be linked together as ‘A Sense of Place’. You can take all three of the workshops, or opt for any of them individually.


A Sense of Place

Drawing into Print

Katherine Anteney

Feb 28th/1st March

10.00am – 4.00pm

No experience of Lino cutting in necessary

This workshop will take you through the process of drawing for printmaking, and progressing from initial drawing exercises through to a finished 2 colour linocut.

To tie in with the theme of A Sense of Place we will be drawing from still life compositions made up of objects that hold a special place in our lives, or evoke memories. These you can abstract and overlap to end up with finished prints that merely suggest their forms through shape and colour. Or you can work on a more figurative approach

Interiors, Drawing Space

Suitable for ALL abilities

Through observed and exploratory drawing this 2 day course focuses on capturing a sense of place in the spacious and relaxing studio at Bransbury. You will be considering the interior and exterior spaces, evoking a feeling of place through a variety of drawn approaches.

Ancient Woodland

Walking through ancient woodland you have a sense of other travellers, others working in the space, coppicing, for example, is still practised as it has been for centuries. Record the Sense of Place inside the wood, its atmosphere and story, using charcoal made on the first morning.

Acrylics and Colour for Beginners

Sarah Spackman is a contemporary figurative artist well known for her stunning still-life paintings.

This two day workshop is for anyone who would like to learn about, or to improve their colour mixing skills and to refresh their thoughts on composition.
