A Flowers and Foliage Watercolour workshop with Christine Forbes is an exciting experience. She treats this traditional medium with respect, and inspired by the East, takes it in a new direction.

Christine will encourage you to experiment with brushwork skills to create vibrant flower and foliage studies. She will help to build your confidence with watercolours as you work through a range of exercises towards some finished pieces.

About the Flowers and Foliage workshop

The workshop will start with observational drawing, then follow on  with specific brushwork techniques. As you learn to work from discipline to intuition your confidence with watercolours will grow. You will develop your ideas through to personal conclusions.

In this workshop you will discover how to manipulate and experiment with watercolours. You will draw and paint both from plants and the riverside landscape with reference to imagery brought by the tutor. Christine’s structured programme will encourage you to appreciate  brushwork skills before developing a personal approach to your subject. These exercises will help you will build your technique and confidence. You will investigate and extend your visual vocabulary and explore watercolours with a contemporary edge.

Christine presents classical and contemporary Eastern approaches to watercolour. You will be encouraged to extend this further, to develop your own interpretations of your subject. Christine will show you how to use the brush to best advantage and engage with the many options offered with watercolour.

Visual aesthetics as well as working techniques are brought together as you move towards some final pieces and a more intuitive and creative way of painting.

Christine’s work is an exciting contemporary look at watercolours and interpretation of the natural environment. She encourages intuitive expressive work based on solid technique.

By the end of this course you will have explored watercolours in a new and exciting fashion and gained a solid, practical base on which to develop new work.
