Suitable for all abilities.
In this class you will be looking at the rhythm and pattern of movement. Music combined with rhythm and movement will encourage you to draw with varied marks and strokes. You will capture the model’s movement and tempo, whether explosive, calm, or repetitive.
You will do a series of exercises to show you different ways of interpreting the moving body. The drawings become something very different to photographs or film, possibly an expression of time and rhythm.
This is exciting drawing to undertake and exciting drawings to see.

Last Saturday was the first of the spring Life Drawing classes.
The class started the day with yoga, and finished with the yoga teacher as the model for their drawings. The emphasis of the day was to experience the physicality of drawing, and to recognise yourself in the model. This was a new experience for everyone and produced some very interesting drawings.
The next class, 9th May, will be a totally different approach. Measured life drawing is about carefully plotting the body in front of you.
This ten week course takes you from absolute beginner to being competent, confident, and independently able to use oil paints. You will start each day developing drawing skills that underpin many methods of painting. You will learn about tone, mark making, colour, some aspects of composition, and the different materials used to paint with oils.
19th September can be treated as a taster day to see if the course is right for you. This will cost £40 refundable against the rest of the course.
Some materials are provided, but over the duration of the course you will be advised about what you need to get started. I don’t want to burden you with a huge expense before you have started.
The idea of this course is to have a look at a number of different creative approaches and apply these ideas to a Still Life.
Some of the things you will be looking at are: narrative paintings, size and composition, Cezanne’s approach to still life, strange compositions, playing with colour, found supports, repetition and deviation, making the everyday ‘special’ and making it personal. You will be encouraged to try fresh methods of doing things, and to play with new ideas.
It does not matter what materials you wish to use, these classes are about exposing you to different ideas. I will help you with any practical problems should they arise, so don’t let inexperience put you off. These classes should help you to find what you want to paint, and how you wish to do it.
20th September can be treated as a taster day to see if the course is right for you. This will cost £40 refundable against the rest of the course.
This class is appropriate for anyone, what ever materials they wish to use. I will provide paper and charcoal for initial exercises. Other materials are up to you.
