January 2019 Drawing Week at Riverside Studio

Introduction to Drawing

The first week from the Drawing Course was busy, creative, stretching, tiring and very interesting. Some students booked in for the whole week, others did fewer days. Everyone made it work for them.

“Kate, thank for a tremendous week. Really amazing.” P.F. “Fun day and very useful too.” J. O’B “Class was great! Really stretched me and i found it very rewarding” M.D.

Drawing classes go from strength to strength. Whatever monstrous Still Life is offered to the classes EVERYONE steps up to the mark. Very good work yesterday.

Sadly, I forgot to take photos of the afternoon’s class (apologies)…every bit as varied, and every bit as interesting.

Well done

Classes at Rum’s Eg

Still Life Drawing

Wednesday 20 September
10.30am – 4.30pm
£45

‘Time and tide wait for no man’…  a look at the passage of time through a still life.

In an age where it is possible to video your cat in real time on the other side of the world, how do you approach the classical discipline of a Still Life? You can take a photo with the click of a button so what more can you bring to the picture? Can you do something  with a drawing that is about the passage of time rather than a snapshot? Maybe add things that are not there, or colours that express your feelings about the objects in a new way.

This is a thoughtful approach to the content of a drawing.

Please bring: A1 sketchbook, charcoal, propelling pencil, drawing pencil, rubber, masking tape.

For more information and to book please go directly to  Rum’s Eg

Super-sized Autumn Fruits and Leaves

If your  drawings are always  the same size and in the same media it can get a bit boring.
This is a chance for you to expand your horizons and make huge drawings of autumnal vegetation from the Lockerley Estate.
The size of the drawing offers its own problems such as stamina to fill a large area, but this size also lends an importance to the work. It doesn’t matter if you are a beginner, or have never drawn larger than A4, before you know it you will be stretching through an aerobic workout, reaching areas of paper you hadn’t contemplated before.
