March and April Workshops with Kate Measham

Join Kate Measham for an exciting workshop during March and April. Below are brief descriptions of each workshop – follow the buttons to find out more.

The Still Life workshops are all part of Artdrawpaint’s Painting Strategy program. They focus on how to make painting/drawing interesting for you.

The workshops aim to give you, the artist, ownership of what you are doing. And suggest how not to get stuck in a rut, or be boring.

Drawing at the Glasshouse is a brief drawing session with cake and coffee at the Glasshouse, Houghton.

March 2nd The Long and the Short of it, Still Life 2026

Kate Measham’s Still Life workshops are designed to shake things up a bit. We ALL get set in our ways. In fact, sometimes people think still lives are boring. It is entirely, ENTIRELY our job, and your job, to make sure your work is NOT boring.

This workshop is not about painting in any particular media. It is about what you want to paint, and how to make it interesting for you. Possibly, interesting for anyone else looking at it.

If you have done any drawing, or painting, you will understand the purpose of the course. It is relevant for everyone interested in creating interesting work, whether they are new to art, or an old hand.

March 9th Starting Somewhere Else, Still Life 2026

The name of the workshop is based on the old joke:

  • How do I get to the seaside?
  • Well, I wouldn’t start from here.

How to start somewhere else involves looking elsewhere.

Inspiration might come from other artists, poets, or films. It could also come from walking down the street, visiting junk shops, or from somewhere entirely different. It might be changing your palette, your methods, or all sorts of other options. This is looking for help, and research.

On this course you will be thinking about other artists, and how they have interpreted still lifes.

March 12th Classes at The Glass House, Houghton

Join Kate for 2 hours drawing, with coffee and cake, at the Glasshouse, Houghton

April 20th Why is Still Life so Square? Still Life 2026

How to not be square is the aim.

You will be encouraged to be neither square (nor rectangular) of shape, nor square of ambition.

This could be as straight forward as painting a still life on a circular support, or it might be extravagantly wild.
