Yoga and Mindful Life Drawing

February 11th, 2019

£90/day, to include model and materials

This combination of yoga and drawing makes you aware of a creative process beyond the conjunction of thought and sight alone. You will engage with all your senses, with your breathing, and your body.

The day will begin with yoga to relax, shed tension and enable you to open yourself to the possibility of drawing with other senses.

In the afternoon our yoga teacher becomes the model.

As the model adopts poses you experienced in the morning you will remember how your body felt and interpret how the model feels. You will be able to feel the stretches as you draw taking you to a new level of engagement with your work.

You will learn how drawing is enriched when you work from a calm place in mind and body. The rhythm of your breath and the intelligence of your body will help you to make intuitive marks.  You will become aware of the effect of your body, its stresses and tensions, on your creative approach.

This class is fine for everyone whatever their level of yoga, or if they have not tried it before.

Cy Twombly - Untitled (color pencil, crayon on paper) 1954Expressive Mark Making, Van Gogh,

Cy Twombly and You

February 12th  to 14thFebruary, 10.00 – 4.30

£270/3 days, some materials provided

The Studio, Bransbury

Communication by email, text, Whatsapp or whatever, make a hand written letter an almost intimate experience.  If you recognise the writing on the envelope you will be transported, for good or bad.  Just as handwriting is personal to an individual so are brushstrokes and drawn marks to an artist.

Over the three days you will look at two masters of mark making, Van Gogh and Cy Twombly.  You will be working on a Still Life initially using their style and then your own expressive response.

You will be encouraged to explore different approaches to making a mark, recording an object, an event, an emotion. The work you produce will take you beyond a straight forward facsimile of the still life; we will learn what you thinkabout the still life, how it works for you, whether you like it, or not. This is a thoughtful and thought provoking experience.
