Drawing from Michelangelo to now

Saturday 3 September – Sunday 6 November 2016

FREE

Poole Museum is delighted to be hosting an exhibition of drawings from the British Museum, home to one of the world’s greatest graphic collections. Lines of thought: Drawing from Michelangelo to now explores the importance of drawing as one of the most effective mediums for expressing and representing an artist’s ideas. The exhibition showcases selected drawings from masters such as Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo right up to artists working in the present day.

This exhibition will tour to just three UK locations, Poole, Hull and Belfast before travelling internationally. It aims to encourage art students and art lovers to engage with and learn to draw from their local and national drawing collections.

Remember to bring your sketchbook or ask at the museum for drawing materials to have a go at being inspired by the masters! or if you are between 6 and 18 years old why not take part in our drawing competition, Junior Poole Open.

Generously supported by the Bridget Riley Art Foundation.

Still Life classes can be a bit dull.

The idea of this course is to have a look at a number of different creative approaches and apply these ideas to a Still Life.

Some of the things you will be looking at are: narrative paintings, size and composition, Cezanne’s approach to still life, strange compositions, playing with colour, found supports, repetition and deviation, making the everyday ‘special’ and making it personal. You will be encouraged to try fresh methods of doing things, and to play with new ideas.

It does not matter what materials you wish to use, these classes are about exposing you to different ideas. I will help you with any practical problems should they arise, so don’t let inexperience put you off. These classes should help you to find what you want to paint, and how you wish to do it.

20th September can be treated as a taster day to see if the course is right for you. This will cost £40 refundable against the rest of the course.

This class is appropriate for anyone, what ever materials they wish to use.   I will provide paper and charcoal for initial exercises. Other materials are up to you.
