Portraits in the Yurt; Mixed Media, Mixed Generations

Parents, grandparents, aunts or uncles join us in the yurt for an exciting portrait session.

24th August, 2017, 2.00pm – 5.00pm

1 adult, plus 1 child, (age 8 – 13), £40/pair, additional children £15 each (max 3 per adult)

materials provided

FullSizeme

In a world of smart phone snaps, and selfies, how can you make a portrait that says more?

Using lots of different methods of drawing, a bit of mask making, a lot of cutting up and pasting develop portraits of each other that are a bit different.

The adults will make portraits of the children and the children will make portraits of the adults, or of each other. These won’t be traditional portraits just based on what a person  looks like, but will include interests, hobbies, aspirations….everything that goes to make a person.

No special skills necessary, just be ready to see yourself afresh.

Drawing and Painting

Have a look at Thursdays at the Yurt – packed full of art classes.

Every other Thursday there are two classes, sometimes three.

In the morning there is Sketch and Scones – all about the cornerstone of all visual art, DRAWING.

For the summer PAINT will be run at the same time as Sketch and Scones

Also in the mornings there is a new class, PAINT. Instead of looking at how to use various different media this class will look at what to do with your painting skills… what are you going to paint, how are you going to paint it, what things work for you and how to keep yourself and your skills moving forward.

In June there is LIFE DRAWING in the evening

These should make Thursdays interesting, fun and exciting.  I have made the classes cheap to encourage you all to have a go. Tell your friends.

If you are interested contact me to reserve a place.

This is a  class about drawing.   It isn’t going to be called a ‘Beginners Guide to Drawing’ because nobody is really a beginner.

Drawing is a skill; it requires practise, guidance and encouragement, adventure and more practise. In this class you will be taught about materials, different techniques and, very importantly, you will learn how to look.

This is a class that is appropriate for all abilities.

You may not have picked up a pencil for a long time, or you might attend a regular, weekly class. The idea of this class, and others that will follow, is to extend yourself, try  something new, revisit something old and to remind yourself that drawing is exciting.

Lavender (and wild flower) Workshop – In a Field by the River Test

Lavender fields in the SUN

Art workshop @riverside_yurt_cafe #artclass #wherwellstudio #stockbridge #landscape #lavender #markerpens
A very busy morning at the Riverside Yurt Cafe. After a frantic session trying varied, and new materials the class were treated to delicious raspberry and lavender jam and clotted cream and scones. They seemed to go down well.

Strong work was produced using a variety of different media.  The two most popular seemed to be black marker pens and the wonderful KOH-I-NOOR  12 Brilliant Water Colour Paint,  (Anilinky).  These are available from Amazon for less than £5.00. Well worth a play. The sun shone all morning and we were warm. This is noteworthy.

Keep a look out for Summer Holiday Classes at the Yurt. These will be for children and adults to work together…scavenger hunts, self portrait classes, picnics and mask making. The picnics are particularly good.  These might be good days out for Grannies and Grandpas with their grandchildren. More to follow
