We love spring at Riverside Cottage; it gets us excited every year. On the banks of the River Dever, you will see the Hampshire countryside start to burst with new life. Bulbs are out in the garden with bright colours banishing the greys of winter. At last.

What happens on a Spring Fever Art Retreat?

The Spring Fever Art Retreat, is organised to help find space in your busy schedule, for you. Kate will guide you through various different aspects of painting and drawing, give you confidence in what you are doing… and make it fun.

The course will be based at The Studio at Riverside Cottage, Bransbury, using their studio and enjoying the views of the River Dever, colourful gardens and grounds.

The week will be suitable for everyone, from beginners to the experienced. Projects will be personalised to meet all skill levels.

From 10.00 until 1.00pm each day there will be a three-hour, taught morning session in the spacious studio, or outside depending on the weather. Lunch will be delicious and healthy, eaten together as a group making this a good time for discussion about what we are doing. After lunch you will be guided through your own personal projects.

You will work on both quick sketches and paintings and longer projects, looking at how to capture a feeling of place and atmosphere.

Colour, palette, tone, mark making, and composition will form the basis of the week.

Risks, experimentation and new approaches will be encouraged.

In the middle of the week you will have a relaxing day concentrating on mind and body in a mix of yoga and art. All your senses will be involved. No yoga experience is necessary – this is about being aware of your body as you draw and paint.

Various Spa treatments will be available in the evening, pre booking essential.

No art or yoga experience is necessary, just a willingness to have a go.

A sketchbook diary of the week will help you to recall all when you return home.

What do I need to bring with me?

We try not to overload you with extensive lists of materials. You will need paper, charcoal, pencils, sketchbook, paints and all that goes with them. We will send you a list and a link to suppliers who will offer you a discount for buying.

It does not matter what materials you prefer to use – The course is suitable for most media as long as it includes colour.
