PLEASE NOTE: this workshop has been postponed due to the death of HM Queen Elizabeth II. New dates below

We think of drawing as the starting point, and the core of all that we do here at Hampshire Art studio. Regularly we hear people say, ‘I haven’t drawn since school’, ‘I can’t draw’, ‘I had to give up art and do physics’… this is your moment to move beyond these self imposed barriers.

Drawing is a skill that can be taught, practised and enjoyed. If you are starting afresh, taking up art after a long break, or simply thinking of giving it a go for fun, this is an excellent place to start.

Let the experienced and very talented Elizabeth Hammond remind you what fun it is to draw, and remind you that you can do it.

What to expect on the Beginners Drawing Workshop

Learn to really see your subject and understand what you are viewing using specific exercises, methods and techniques on this supportive course. This is an introduction to basic drawing skills, line, shape, form, tone and depth.  A variety of techniques and materials will be explored in an encouraging atmosphere. This course will give students an introduction to drawing techniques and materials instilling confidence to explore drawing further. Discover the fun of drawing!

Step by step you will consolidate your drawing skills. As with most things, the more more you practise the better you will become.

Following the workshop a little bit of regular drawing will give you confidence to have a go at ANYTHING. We will suggest exercises for you to do at home after this workshop has finished.

You will be able to go from this workshop to other beginners workshops for introductions to different media, or to workshops after half term that are suitable for all abilities and experience.

The more you draw, the more you will look at the world around you, and the more you will see.

Materials will be provided for use on this course.

We suggest you wear clothes that you don’t mind getting grubby, and maybe and apron.
