About the Class
This class will look at narrative drawings using pen and ink. The Grimm Brothers’ Fairy Tales, with their dark, scary stories, will be our starting point.
The Little Matchgirl, Rumplestiltskin, Hansel and Gretel, Snow White, and Little Red Riding Hood have inspired artists and frightened children for generations. Does ‘good’ always win over evil? Why do we frighten our children? How scary can we be without feeling bad about it?
Arthur Rackham’s wonderful drawings are a good place to look for inspiration.
