June Landscape Workshop
Spend two days at this idyllic riverside studio, as close to the water’s edge as you could be. Sitting, watching, listening, reflecting, writing, drawing – in quiet contemplation, responding to all the senses. Paying particular attention to the rhythms and repetition found in the natural world, patterns in the water’s surface, light refracted on the river bed, the play of shadows, the dance of midsummer leaves.

What to expect on this course
With plenty of space, you will be able to work inside the studio, and out on the riverbank, on both quick studies and prolonged drawings.
Katie will be using guided meditation and mark-making exercises to help you settle into the space, find your own connection, use your breath and body to lead the process of drawing, through all the senses.
As well as making small studies in charcoal, ink and mixed media, you will be encouraged to work on large, experimental drawings representing your engagement with the River Dever, playing with rhythm and repetition, building up layers, exploring the abstract qualities of surface as well as finding a sense of place.

A river is a complex, beautiful setting. Sights, sounds, smells and emotions are triggered by the river and its environment. The River Dever, a Hampshire chalk stream, runs across the front of the studio at Bransbury.
