Katie Sollohub (born in Winchester 1969) is a Sussex based artist who is interested in documenting and recording the places she lives and works in through drawings, paintings, performance, photography and poetry. She studied Social Anthropology at Sussex University followed by Fine Art at Northbrook College Worthing.
Katie’s work explores the narrative components surrounding objects, memories, interior and exterior spaces, brought to life with her spectacular use of colour and detail.
In 2014 she was awarded an Arts Council England grant to fund her year long residence at JMW Turner’s House in Twickenham. Since then she has maintained connections to the house, as well as other historic homes in the area, including Alexander Pope’s Grotto, Normansfield Theatre, and Strawberry Hill House. During this time she spent many hours walking along the Thames, and made several studies of the river from the garden of Pope’s Grotto.
Her practice focuses on being present, incorporating meditation and simple observations of everyday moments, into her daily routine. Whilst artist in residence in Tuscany in 2017, her attention turned more to the world of nature and imagination, making numerous studies of swallows dipping.
In April 2020 Katie was First Prize winner of the Derwent Drawing Prize, a deserving accolade for her ongoing commitment to her work, through exploratory practice.
