This two-day, taster workshop will introduce you to Sharon Kearley and her exciting approach to contemporary designing for weave, translating line in drawing, into ‘drawing’ with threads, creating woven cloth, producing samples and framed artworks.
The course is suitable for the beginner to experienced weaver and is taught in response to the individual’s level.

What to Expect on Draw to Weave
Day 1
Learn to draw for weave design using simple mark-making techniques and a wide range of materials.
Explore colour and texture through drawing, painting, and collage. Step by step guidance will be given with set tasks for the more nervous artist. Sharon will share her own design process, sharing ideas from her book “Woven Textiles – A Designer’s Guide.”.
Day 2
Translate your drawings ideas into a simple woven cloth.
Sharon will teach you simple repeat patterns in weave directly taken from individual design work from Day 1. Exploring how line and mark can be communicated through woven texture and pattern, you will learn to weave on pre-dressed looms and simple frame looms using a wide range of yarns.
