Artists Take Over Casa Rosa

Kate and Rosie plan to open the studio at Casa Rosa in late April for a fortnight. Join us for “Artists Take Over Casa Rosa” from 1st May – 8th May, 2022 and we will look forward to welcoming you.

In late April and early May come to Casa Rosa for art and culture in the Axarquía, the mountainous area to the north east of Malaga. The hills and orchards of Andalucía will be ripe with citrus fruit and wild flowers. Nestling into the landscape, Casa Rosa will have olives, garden flowers and fruit growing in the orchards and around the houses.

An artistic retreat: you will be free to be as creative and innovative as you feel inclined. No interventions other than meals. There will be options offered, but not distractions, and all the creature comforts will continue to appear as regularly as ever.

What to Expect at an Art Retreat at Casa Rosa

The art weeks at Casa Rosa have a house party feel.

You will eat most meals together with Kate, Rosie and the other students. Casa Rosa sits in the middle of its own orchards and Autumn will see the orchards bursting with fruit. The house and cottages are  full of delightful surprises, pictures, pottery and antiques collected locally and from years of travel.

Food is an important part of the pleasure of staying at Casa Rosa. Rosie’s approach is to serve warm salads and raw food and to combine that with other very comforting solutions to restore the heart and soul after a day of hard labour at the easel.

Rosie has spent many years travelling the world and discovering different gastronomic delights. She will attempt to accommodate any nutritional requirements, but please give good warning before you arrive.

Meals will be a communal affair with Rosie, her helpers and the other artists and guests eating together. The produce is sourced locally where possible including the olive oil which comes from the estate.

Wednesday will be a day off for everyone except the cook… Meals will be available.

The glorious views from Casa Rosa are there to inspire any artist.

As the sun rises over the hills behind the house the morning light catches the mountains. Red earth under these ancient trees and blue rocks in the distance – enough to make anyone want to paint before breakfast! These mountains, the fruit orchards, and olive groves around Casa Rosa look different each time you look at them.

This untutored week at Casa Rosa could be thought of as an artistic retreat: you will be free to be as creative and innovative as you feel inclined. No interventions other than meals. There will be options offered, but not distractions, and all the creature comforts will continue to appear as regularly as ever.

If you want space and time to do your own thing, this is the week for you. On offer is the full range of delightful facilities, delicious, freshly cooked meals, regular drinks and snacks, and all the beauties of Casa Rosa and its surrounding environment. There is a large studio space with easels, drawing boards etc.

Have a look at the facilities of Casa Rosa Estate – tennis court, pool, ping pong table – freely available and the nearby village only a walk away.

If you’re interested in bringing your own group of students to Casa Rosa this is a perfect way to have a trial run.
