What to expect on this course
This two-day workshop involves working towards abstraction of the Hampshire landscape. It will focus on composition and arranging shapes of colour based on sketchbook work.

Each morning students will start work outside with small sketchbook studies. A short demonstration by Michael will show you how he uses his sketchbook.
In the afternoon you will work in the studio painting from the morning’s drawings. You will be using big brushes, newspaper and your hands to put down large areas of colour on paper. The materials to be used will mainly be any wet media, including oil.
Ivon Hitchens, with his large, abstract landscapes, and essential shapes and colours would be an interesting artist to investigate. However, you will be paring down your drawings and making your paintings very much your own.

This dynamic and experimental approach is exciting and produces unexpected results.
