How are your drawing skills? Do you honestly believe that you can’t paint? I promise that you absolutely can.

THIS HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL SPRING 2021

Our weekend is suitable for ALL LEVELS of artists, beginners to advanced. This two-day drawing and painting event will inspire, educate and crucially allow you space to bask in the joy of simply making art.

A Hampshire girl myself and dedicated lover of Riverside Lifestyle (I have previously rented the cottages myself for family holidays) I will take you from nervous participant to confident art contributor by the end of our weekend together.

You need no existing skills, just a willingness to have a go. You can be hand-held through a series of proven exercises, or simply left be to work on your own with encouragement at hand whenever you need it.

“I thoroughly enjoy encouraging others on their own creative journeys, when a group comes together for a weekend of working collectively, magical things happen”

Our weekend breakdown is below, I hope you can join us. Sam x

About Samantha Barnes

Graduating from Winchester, then Edinburgh College of Art in 1994, Sam has been a practising artist since. Opening her own gallery in Clapham Common in 2000, she is well versed in not only making, exhibiting and selling her own work but is highly accomplished in working with other artists and encouraging talent in others.

This workshop marks a first-return to teaching for Sam, having taken recent years out to concentrate on producing her landscape, seascape paintings that are now selling via galleries nationally.

Sam also has an established business which began in 2016 painting contemporary portraits of dogs. Known as ipaintdogs.com, her paintings have been commissioned and now hang in New York, Melbourne and many homes up and down the UK.

Travelling from afar?

Our studio, (The Hampshire Art Studio) is based in the grounds of Riverside Cottage where I will be staying for the weekend.

There is B&B accommodation in the house, single room occupancy at £100 per night, less if sharing.

A three-course supper can be provided at £25 per person, it will be nice to have one supper with all participants if we can, the other evening, we might eat at the local pub.

Yoga:

If we want to, there is the option to have an unstrenuous, relaxing yoga session on Saturday morning at £15pp. Please let me know if you are interested in doing so at your time of booking.

Art Materials:

I am a big believer in bringing what you already have stored away or salvaged from under the stairs!

We will be using paper, A2 size, some drawing materials and some paints too. A defined list will be sent to you upon your booking time. You will also be able to purchase art materials from me over the weekend as needed.

Who:

Every level of artist or non-artist is welcome to join me this weekend. Spaces are limited, there are 10 in total and I believe that 8 are still available.

What will we be doing?

Being familiar with Riverside Cottage myself, I have selected to run this weekend workshop in September as our landscape and view will be full of Lavender at this time.

Come rain or shine (we will work indoors or outside – it’s up to you!) We will work directly from the view of this stunning setting, perhaps photographing, then drawing, and taking our research into exciting paintings in watercolour, acrylic paint or water-based oils as you wish.
I envisage that Saturday will be drawing and getting to know our surroundings visually, we might then do some basic printmaking to help us draw out some different perspectives.

Once we are ready, we will come to paint using all our sketches and studies.

**Please note**

This weekend of making art is all about fun. There is NO pressure to produce masterpieces. The workshop is fully flexible and you will be supported to try new mediums, make try-out works, or perhaps just set up in the garden and paint one scene only. It is fully-flexible, fun and my absolute aim is for you to enjoy our weekend, then take your confidence home and continue your artistic journey.
