Sept 7, 21, Oct 5, 19, and Nov 2, 16, 30, Dec 14
10.00 – 1.00 on a Thursday morning.
£80/4 classes, to be paid at the beginning of each half term or
This is a fun drawing class for all standards.
Each week a different aspect of drawing is examined and tested using different media, and different methods. You will experiment with content, composition, mark making, tone, narrative, repetition, line and anything else I can think of to throw your way.
And there are scones
Drawing is hard, mindful, exciting, rewarding, thought provoking and other things besides. Recording what you see is a human instinct that crosses all barriers.

Still Life Drawing
Wednesday 20 September
10.30am – 4.30pm £45
‘Time and tide wait for no man’… a look at the passage of time through a still life.
In an age where it is possible to video your cat in real time on the other side of the world, how do you approach the classical discipline of a Still Life? You can take a photo with the click of a button so what more can you bring to the picture? Can you do something with a drawing that is about the passage of time rather than a snapshot? Maybe add things that are not there, or colours that express your feelings about the objects in a new way.
This is a thoughtful approach to the content of a drawing.

Super-sized Autumn Fruits and Leaves
charcoal and mixed media
Sunday, 10th October, 10am – 5pm,
at Lockerley Hall
This is a Fundraiser special for Rum’s Eg.
The day costs £85 and includes refreshments, and a delicious lunch.
If your drawings are always the same size and in the same media it can get a bit boring.
This is a chance for you to expand your horizons and make huge drawings of autumnal vegetation from the Lockerley Estate.
The size of the drawing offers its own problems such as stamina to fill a large area, but this size also lends an importance to the work. It doesn’t matter if you are a beginner, or have never drawn larger than A4, before you know it you will be stretching through an aerobic workout, reaching areas of paper you hadn’t contemplated before.
One Morning, One Pose: Life Drawing
Wednesday 15 November
10.30am – 1pm
One model holding the same pose for an entire morning giving you the rare chance to really study the body and work on a long drawing. You will look at different elements of drawing including measuring, mark making and tone.
Parents, grandparents, aunts or uncles join us in the yurt for an exciting portrait session.
24th August, 2017, 2.00pm – 5.00pm
1 adult, plus 1 child, (age 8 – 13), £40/pair, additional children £15 each (max 3 per adult)
In a world of smart phone snaps, and selfies, how can you make a portrait that says more?
Using lots of different methods of drawing, a bit of mask making, a lot of cutting up and pasting develop portraits of each other that are a bit different.
The adults will make portraits of the children and the children will make portraits of the adults, or of each other. These won’t be traditional portraits just based on what a person looks like, but will include interests, hobbies, aspirations….everything that goes to make a person.
No special skills necessary, just be ready to see yourself afresh.

The Young Gallery and John Creasey Museum, Salisbury
Upstairs in the library in Salisbury are three gallery spaces with a collection of modern and contemporary works. Many are drawings, etchings and prints with some exciting paintings thrown in too.
The curator, Peter Riley, has a particular interest in mark making so there are some unusual and pleasing choices from well known artists such as Euan Uglow, Paula Rego, Keith Vaughan, John Bellany and others.
The galleries are well worth a look with new exhibitions planned for later in the year. Combine the outing with a morning at Roche Court for a rewarding day.
To celebrate our 1st Birthday and to say thank you for making us such a success we would like to offer you 25% off our quality art materials for two days just before the summer holidays in July, Wednesday 19th July and Sunday 23rd July.
On the celebration days we will be open Wednesday 19th, 9.00 till 17.30 and Sunday 23rd July 11.00 to 16.00
We can be found about 20 minutes from Winchester, Salisbury and Romsey, about 35 minutes from Southampton in the picturesque village of Stockbridge famous for its River Test and high end shopping. Parking is free and we have no steps to negotiate.
The hustle and bustle of a market town can be an overwhelming prospect for any artist. In this class you will be looking at the contrasts between the permanent buildings and the to and fro of people. We will meet at Rum’s Eg and then set off through town.
These drawings will feel like a captured moment in time. It is an exciting approach to a tricky subject.
Yesterday’s River Test outing was plagued from the start; it was meant to happen a month ago but bad weather and bad diary management meant it had to be postponed. Yesterday we battled with rain, cattle, TB testing, postmen and equipment falling in the river amongst other excitements. During one downpour the chairs doubled up as umbrellas.
Next month (August) the plan is to visit Mottisfont – if the weather is as changeable we can retire to the tearooms.
Spend the morning in the Yurt by the River Test learning the basic skills for painting in oils. All materials will be provided. No previous experience is necessary. This will be a fun, small group designed to give you personal attention, and get you under way with oil painting. Places are limited so contact me for more information, or to book a place.
