Wimbledon

Yesterday I was one of the lucky people at Wimbledon, in the scorching sun, watching Lleyton Hewitt playing his final match. It was wonderful, exciting tennis in a match that lasted over 4 hours.

The thing that made yesterday even more special was that I was enjoying it with my friend Vivien, laughing at the Aussie Fanatics, admiring the strength of the tennis and watching the lady in front of us get very burnt. Looking around us there were mothers and daughters, fathers and sons, friends, and relations in every direction. Nobody seemed to be there alone.

If you want to come to an art class with a friend, or relation, I will give you a discount of 10% on both tickets.  This is available for any class until Christmas – just say at the time of booking.

From Longstock Park Nursery to Wherwell Priory Studio

On Site at Longstock Park Nursery, and in the studio

  • 13th – 16th July,2015
  • £260/course, £150/2 days
  • 9.30am-4.30pm, meeting at Longstock nursery on 13th July

How do you create a piece of work that is based on a place, a feeling, an idea, but isn’t a direct copy?

Longstock Park Nursery is a busy working environment with areas of peace and tranquility. It is a place of texture, colour and pattern, and a place of hope and aspiration.

How can we start to translate all of this into one picture? The fun and excitement of it is playing around with different ideas, trying different things, making mistakes, editing and finding a way through that is entirely your own. This sounds daunting but DO NOT BE ALARMED.

Whatever your ability, beginner or seasoned professional, you will find a way in.

This course is a chance for you to create a piece of art based on research on site, and reflection in the studio. There will be a large element of sketching and visual note taking, followed by painting.

The course is set up over four days giving you a chance to work towards one piece or a body of work.

For more information contact Kate Measham on 01980 863155, or kate@artdrawpaint.com

#longstockInitially, you will spend a day sketching, photographing and making working drawings at Longstock Park Nursery, followed  by a day at work in the studio. The following two days will be more studio based but with garden centre visits, if necessary.

You are welcome to return to the nursery in the intervening days.

Longstock Park Nursery and Farm Shop is part of the John Lewis /Waitrose Group (http://www.longstocknursery.co.uk/). There is a beautiful deep border along the outside wall of the garden centre showing examples of the beautiful plants on offer within.

It has wonderful gardens with very well maintained borders, brick and flint walls, greenhouses, shops and a variety of things for sale. The Farm Shop sells a number of vegetables from the Leckford farms, and from other local sources.

Its coffee shop and cafe is a wonderful place to grab a bit to eat, and a moment to pause and think about what you are doing.

If we are hit by rain, the Farm Shop, greenhouse and garden shop should protect us from the elements

See the Gallery, and works in The Greyhound on the Test

The Michelin starred pub/restaurant/hotel The Greyhound on The Test, in Stockbridge (thegreyhoundonthetest.co.uk) has a number of my pictures on their walls. On Monday I went to photograph them for the gallery. They have some sumptuous new bedrooms that have been photographed for various magazines, with my paintings on the walls. Very exciting.
